The Significance of Floral Art

A

Floral art, or using plants in creative expression, is like sculpture that uses ever-evolving plant materials instead of clay. Arranging plants is a chance to slow down and appreciate the detail and form that we overlook when we see a completed terrarium or bouquet. This also forces us to let go of control– the creator has to accept that that some stems will bend imperfectly, or that after being cut blooms may continue to grow, change, and eventually, fade.

Additionally, I have found that spending time observing, admiring and arranging plants exercises a muscle I rarely tapped into as a working adult. My hope is that people who attend my workshops will enjoy experiencing something novel for an hour or two, learn a little, and leave with a newfound desire to give nature and creative practices more space in their lives.
